Artificial intelligence (AI) is swiftly establishing itself as the engine of a new industrial revolution, reshaping  economies, industries and societies worldwide. Global investment in AI is accelerating toward AU$3 trillion by 2026. Australia has invested just over AU$300 million over the last five years.

As the Australian decommissioning sector evolves, there is a role for state government to ensure the appropriate and timely decommissioning of facilities, uphold the safety of the sector’s working environment, and minimise the decommissioned facilities’ environmental impact.

South Australia’s efforts to move towards a circular economy provide significant opportunities to reduce waste and pollution, maintain resource efficiency and value, and protect the integrity of natural ecosystems.

This report explores technologies and career opportunities associated with the decommissioning of Australian offshore oil and gas (OO&G) facilities. It was commissioned by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources as part of the development of the Offshore Resources Decommissioning Roadmap.

SMRs could potentially form part of Australia’s future low-carbon energy mix, utilising existing transmission infrastructure and contributing to baseload power, or providing dispatchable power in a high-renewables grid. As an emerging technology, in 2024 the cost and operational performance of this technology has not yet been demonstrated.

Our submission to the NSW government towards development of a Digital Inclusion Strategy to ensure that all residents of NSW have equitable access to essential services and economic and social opportunities in the digital age.

The proposed National Urban Policy supports UN's Sustainable Development Goal 11 (sustainable cities and communities), and links with a range of other SDGs, including Goal 3 (good health and wellbeing), Goal 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), and Goal 13 (climate action). 

ATSE welcomes the First Nations Digital Inclusion Advisory Group’s initiative to develop a Roadmap for First Nations Digital Inclusion. This submission draws on the input of ATSE Fellows and participants in our STEM Careers programs – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - to put forward the following evidence-based recommendations for developing the roadmap.

ATSE’s submission acknowledges the improvements made to the defence trade controls legislation amendments in response to concerns raised by ATSE on unintended consequences for research.
