Dr Nick Fleming is an expert in systems thinking and complex problem solving. He has made award-winning contributions to the science and practice of natural resources management and sustainable development. As one of Australia’s first Chief Sustainability Officers, he repositioned sustainability as core business. His techniques for translating insight into practice have been applied to major projects in Australia and internationally, across the mining, energy, water, transport and health sectors. 

Fleming contributes his strategic acumen on multiple boards, is an adjunct professor at the University of Queensland, and is a sought-after advisor delivering unique executive development programs. He served as National President and board chair of Engineers Australia, where he was instrumental in transforming the organisation’s strategy and championing climate change. He has received multiple awards for technical excellence, leadership and innovation.

Nick is an experienced company director, strategist, facilitator, and educator with experience across diverse sectors both domestic and international. He has made award-winning contributions to the science and practice of natural resources management and sustainable development. Professionally trained in engineering, Nick is a true trans-disciplinarian with recognised expertise in strategy and complex problem solving in the public and private sectors. He is a sought-after speaker and coach, delivering unique executive development programs with the ANZ School of Government and the South Australian Leadership Academy. Before founding Innergise, Nick served as Director of Business Innovation for Jacobs and global Chief Sustainability Officer for SKM. He was a non-executive director with the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia. Currently, he is a non-executive director of South East Water, Iota and TasNetworks, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, and recently completed his term as National President and Board Chair of Engineers Australia.
